DEMOLISHING +2 CHEMISTRY
PART-I
REALITY CHECK
What happens when a pond fish is thrown into sea?
Remember?? Biology?? Osmosis??
O!!!!!! the fish dies.

Sometimes well mostly same is the case of a student who just passes class X
and steps into class XI. A 100 page book becomes suddenly 1500
pages. Huge change. I wont say its an easy task. Its hard. Now let alone
books. The size change of books and syllabus coupled with pressure from
parents, ambition for IIT, NIT’s, PMT etc.. makes it much more difficult.
Relatives come to home. Just after results you know. “Well you have got
90+%, Well done!!”(with lot of grim in heart in most cases).
“So beta what are you doing next ? Have you joined any IIT classes? Are you
going for medical? “.
A student who was just having a honeymoon smile after X result is now a
confused fellow. He was reminded time and time again by his parents
before X “Tui bhalo kore por. Ei porikkhatar opor sob depend korche”
(You read well, everything depends on X). He now feels cheated. He never
knew a much larger monster is waiting for him.
Well to be honest lets face the reality. Life would never be easier. It’s a
false assumption. So it’s better to tighten your belts because the upcoming
life even after +2 or even if you are an IIT ian or NIT ian or a doctor, life is
getting tougher and tougher for you.
Each and every success comes with added responsibilities.
You get a promotion in office not as a reward but to give you
larger responsibilities.
You get science in +2 so you can take more pressure now.
So can you be proud after X?
You have something to be proud. If you have got science after class X, that
means you are in top 33%(approx) of all students in India who passes class
X.
So what you have in store next? Previously you were competing with 100
people consisting of good, average, poor students.
Now you are competing with the 33 best out of 100 students. So you need
to upgrade yourself.
It’s a life you may or may not have chosen, but you got to live it now.
You can leave the playground. But will that be an honor or shame? You
know the answer.
Character of a person is defined by his ability
to perform under difficult conditions.
So let’s show some character and change our body fluids  and jump into
the sea and we know we will survive.
(Remember Sachin would not be Sachin without those two innings in Sharjah. Dravid
never gave up in Durban in 1996, when India was all out at 66. He was there till the
end).
ANALYZING CLASS 11 SYLLABUS
We often think class XI will not come in ISC and we may take it lightly. You
can make mistakes in life but never commit a sin. And if you were even
thinking what I wrote earlier, you are committing a sin.
This is +2 and you better respect it just as people respect while Malinga
bowls. We will be building pillars of success in class XI.
Proper planning is required to cover the syllabus in a nice way so that our
concepts in chemistry becomes strong.
Ultimately the concepts will matter rather than bombarding terms and
chemical names.
Let’s start demolishing the syllabus of class XI now.
I divide the syllabus into following types of chemistry.
I. PHYSICAL-lets break it up.
1. Mole chemistry.
Mole concept, laws of chemical combinations,Chemical calculations,
Molarity, Normality,Molality, Formality etc.., Gas laws. Avogadro ji’s
charismatic number.
**This chapter has lot of numerical and believe me they are easy and
scoring. And success in this gives a good start coupled with a 20% kickstart
in confidence level.
2. Atomic chemistry.
Atomic structure, Periodic table, Chemical bonding.
**This would give a strong pillar to understand inorganic and organic
chemistry. Without these you will never be able to succeed in chemistry.
Success in this would give at least a 50% grip over the syllabus
3. Thermo-chemistry.
Just a single chapter Thermodynamics they call it energetics. I have never
came across anyone who said he/she understand this naughty kid 100%.
**Basically you can’t tame thermodynamics. So be respectful and study
meticulously
4. Physico-chemistry
Properties of Gases, solutions, colloids, adsorption, surface
chemistry,Chemical Kinetics.
** This chapters are a combination of physics and chemistry. Scoring and
interesting
Here for concept building I would recommend students to finish part 1 & 2
first before going to organic and inorganic chemistry.(This is for the reason
that school will have syllabuses combining physical, inorganic and organic
chemistry)
II. INORGANIC
1. Study of elements, Study of Compounds, Redox reactions.
Don’t say I am not good at memorizing so I don’t like inorganic chemistry.
This is just a lame excuse to avoid inorganic chemistry. Inorganic chemistry
follows rules just as organic chemistry. And you need to find the pattern it
follows. And most of all you already know a lot about this part from class IX
& X. Perhaps Organic chemistry would be a tougher nut to crack.
This part is scoring and normally what I saw that ISC students are not good
at it. So basically this part gives you less competition.
To be continued…..
